Frenchman Lucas Serme survived the longest match of his professional career when he beat Mexico's Eric Galvez in the final of the Layer 3 Technologies & Hazlow Electronics Rochester Pro-Am to win the PSA World Tour Challenger 5 squash event celebrating its ninth successive year at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, USA.

Third seed Serme, a 21-year-old student at the University of the West of England in the UK, reached the final after ending the impressive run of Peruvian wildcard Andres Duany, a student at Rochester University.

But No4 seed Galvez, the 29-year-old former Mexican number one, rolled back the years in the other semi by upsetting higher-ranked 21-year-old compatriot Alfredo Avila, the top seed and the 2011 champion, in straight games.

And Galvez twice led in the final before Serme ultimately took control of the match to win 10-12, 11-2, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6 after 102 minutes.

The victory makes Serme the first French winner of the Rochester title - and marks the Creteil-born world No87's third PSA World Tour title of the year.
